Cane Bay Beach is one of the best beaches on St Croix, and it's important to respect the reef and all of the beautiful beings that live there. The sandy entry points noted above are the best places to get into the water, as there are sea urchins, sea fans and coral that you can kill, or get stung by if you enter other spots.
When snorkeling, don't step on the reef or touch the coral, as you can kill these sensitive, living creatures. Please leave shells and coral in the sea too.
Hang a right after you enter the water for some great, shallow snorkeling. Go slowly and look for octopus, eels, fish, sting rays, baracuda and what ever else you might discover! It's a beautiful, underwater world.
When greeting locals, always start with "Good Morning", "Good Afternoon" (or "Good Day") or "Good Night" (not good evening),. THEN begin your conversation. For example, when asking for something in the grocery store, say, "Good Afternoon, can you point me towards the whiskey?"
If you don't do this, they will think you are rude and oftentimes not give you great service. AND, just an FYI, the island is not know for it's stellar customer service, so if you come across someone who is a grumpy pants, don't take it personally. Just smile and continue having a wonderful time!
